Taman Ayun Temple is a sacred temple complex that has the concept of Tri Mandala, characterized by multi-storey Meru architecture, surrounded by large fish ponds, and lush gardens, so as to make this temple so enchanting and can pamper the eyes for visitors. Taman Ayun Temple stands on land with a length of 100 meters and a width of 250 meters, where this temple complex consists of a courtyard and three inner courtyards, which are bordered by stone fences that have different heights. This temple is known for the beauty of rows of multi-storey meru that stand majestically, and from a distance it looks as if it is floating above the pond that surrounds it. As one of the sacred temple clusters to pray for Balinese Hinduism, Taman Ayun Temple is also a tourist attraction.

Historically, Taman Ayun Temple was built in 1634 by the King of Mengwi, I Gusti Putu Agung Putu, where this temple is a Paibon Temple (Mother Temple) for the Mengwi Kingdom to worship they ancestors. Taman Ayun Temple comes from two words taman and ayun. Taman means garden, while Ayun means beautiful. So Taman Ayun is a temple that has beautiful gardens. In 1917, this temple was destroyed by a devastating earthquake with a magnitude of about 8 on the Richter scale. Since then, Taman Ayun Temple has undergone two major restorations, namely in 1937 as a whole, and the second in 1949 which focused on the repair of the temple and the great gate. Taman Ayun Temple was built with the concept of Tri Mandala (three pages) which symbolizes the cosmological level, namely Nista Mandala (outside place), Madia Mandala (middle place), and Utama Mandala (jeroan).
When visiting Taman Ayun Temple, you will be greeted by a gate and a bridge that connects the outer courtyard with the inner courtyard of the temple. On the right side of the gate there is a wantilan that displays a diorama of the community raising chickens, and a small temple called Pura Luhuring Purnama. The Pintu Gelung at Taman Ayun Temple is the main gate of the inner courtyard of the temple, and is only opened during special ceremonies, but visitors can still take a closer look at the sacred area through the path that surrounds the inner courtyard barrier of the temple. And in the area of Taman Ayun Temple, visitors can see the Meru building, Gedong, Padmasana, Gedong Rong Telu and other religious buildings.
