The name Ulun Danu Beratan Temple is taken from the name of the lake where this temple was built, namely Lake Beratan. In Lontar Babad Mengwi, it is described that the establishment of Ulun Danu Beratan Temple coincided with the existence of the Mengwi Kingdom, namely during the reign of King Mengwi I Gusti Agung Putu, established in 1634 AD to worship Ida Sang Hyang Widi Wasa in manifestation as Tri Murti God (Brahma Good, Wisnu God, and Siwa God), Goddess Danu, as well as Gods and Goddesses to ask for salvation, fertility, and to maintain prosperity in people's lives. Because of its status related to the Mengwi Kingdom, this temple is called Dang Kahyangan. The same thing is also explained in Usana Bali and Padma Bhuana, which is to make Ulun Danu Beratan Temple, referred to as Kahyangan Jagat Temple, which is worshipped by all Hindus. Ulun Danu Beratan Temple is located at an altitude of about 1500 meters above sea level, with its fresh and cool air. And Lake Beratan has very clear, calm water and interspersed with gentle gusts of wind that occasionally sweep, creating small ripples on its surface. A thin mist rises from the lake and hangs in the air, and surrounds the temple, thus giving it such a beautiful view of the natural scenery.
