Tirta Gangga Water Palace is cool retreat in the eastern highlands is located at Ababi village, Abang District, and Karangasem Regency in East part of Bali. It lies on the south-eastern slopes of the island’s highest mountain, is Mount Agung. Tirta Gangga is one of the famous tourist destination which have the scenery area is fantastic and great view and the climate is relatively cool. These facts, together with the religious rites of the spring, inspired the King to build himself a private country house nearby this spring set amidst a beautiful recreational garden. Tirta Gangga is take from the words Tirta and Gangga. which Tirta is means holy water and Gangga from Ganges is means holy river in India. Tirta Gangga is built in 1948 by King of karangasem, Anak Agung Anglurah Ketut Karangasem.
Owned and maintained by the Royal Karangasem family, the lavish water gardens feature 1.2 hectares of pools, ponds and fountains surrounded by neatly cut lawn that are adorned with stepping stones, ornate statues and tropical gardens. It saw a series of restorations following the destructive hot showers of volcanic ash from the mount Agung eruption in 1963. Entering the site, the first thing that comes into view is a pond where rows of guardian figures holding cudgels are neatly arranged. Also, polygonal stepping stones which enable visitors to “tour” the pond are set out in order. This allows viewing the old and large golden carp from up close in the clear and shallow ponds.
Tirta Gangga Water Palace consists of three separate complexes. The First complex that are very bottom or lowest level to find two Teratati ponds and fountains, The Second complex or middle level are the swimming pools and also many small statue are intentionally set on the stone to decorate the park in order to make good looking, which all of the statues are taken from the Hindu Historical epos like Maha Bharata and Ramayana, and The Third level to find houses for country home King which is use for by King Anak Agung Anglurah Ketut and their family for rest. but nowadays one can find a restaurant and couple bungalow units which are for rent to foreign or domestic visitor.
