There are two opinions regarding the history of the establishment of Uluwatu Temple :

Uluwatu Temple is located in Pecatu Village, South Kuta District, Badung-Bali Regency, which is one of the six Sad Kahyangan Jagat temples in Bali. Uluwatu Temple comes from two words, namely Ulu and Watu. Where Ulu means end or peak, while Watu means rock or cliff rock. So Uluwatu Temple is a temple that is on top of a rock. And this temple is located on a cliff with a height of approximately 80 meters that juts over the Indian Ocean facing east, and unlike other temples in Bali that face west or south. Where Uluwatu Temple is dedicated to worship Shiva God in manifestation as Rudra God and this temple ceremony is held on the day of Angara Kasih, Wuku Medangsia in the Balinese calendar.
One of the uniqueness of Uluwatu Temple is its location located on a cliff with a direct view of the Indian Ocean, and the area around this temple is also still beautiful with a forest that is still inhabited by a group of monkeys that roam along the path of the temple area. As one of the most popular tourist destinations, Uluwatu Temple is also known for its beautiful sunset views, and this temple is also often the location of Kecak and Fire Dance performances, which are popular attractions on the island of Bali. And the most appropriate visit to this temple is in the afternoon, so you can watch the sun set with the amazing silhouette of Uluwatu Temple.
